Asylum accommodation and support system

In October 2020 in a letter to local authority chief executives the government announced an increase in asylum support payments. Those within dispersed accommodation will receive an increase in weekly payments to £39.63 per week (which is an increase of around 5%). Those in full board accommodation supported under section 95 or section 4(2) of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 will be eligible to receive payments of £8 per week to cover clothing, travel and non-prescription medication.

Back payment of £3 per week for clothing needs will be available from as far back as 27 March (or the date on which the person was granted support), and £3 per week for travel costs backdated to the 1st July (or the date the person was granted support). The mechanisms of how this payment will be provided are being worked through.
