Windrush compensation scheme
The Home Secretary made an announcement in the House on 14 December 2020 on the improvements to the Windrush Compensation Scheme. Details of this can be found in this factsheet as well as further details on the fund here. The Home Office presented an update at all SESPM’s Sub Regional Strategic Migration groups through September 2018 on the actions being pursued in respect of addressing the issues arising from ‘Windrush’. This includes the consultation events covering the support available, gathering lessons learned and compensation.
In order to assist local authorities helping undocumented Commonwealth Citizens the NRPF network has created guidance. The Local Government Association (LGA) has also issued advice regarding Commonwealth Citizens without status.
